The HR platform is transforming the way Millennials are connecting on-demand with employers globally, resulting in rapid growth for talentReef. To keep pace with current demand and anticipation of additional scale with the upcoming holiday season, talentReef decided to upgrade and migrate their database platform to AWS.
Challenges

- Originally migrated their EC2-based database technology stack to AWS using a Lift & Shift approach and realized some of their systems were not architected according to best practices

- Logicworks completed a MAP Assessment including discovery, design, and total cost of ownership
- Evaluated talentReef’s primary challenges surrounding cost and architecture, and the operational benefits of migrating from SQL Enterprise on EC2 to a SQL Enterprise on RDS
- Once the architecture was designed, Logicworks deployed the initial foundation infrastructure, splitting the build into multiple phases to minimize operational expenses and reduce manual effort
- Using infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, and other automation tools, Logicworks provided guidance on the most appropriate SQL data migration tools and processes
Results
By leveraging Logicworks’ decades of experience designing and building AWS environments, talentReef was able to transition smoothly from SQL on EC2 to SQL on RDS and significantly reduce their management overhead. The DBA team at talentReef was able to shift their focus from maintaining availability, patching, and backups to enhancing performance through database tuning and indexing. Additionally, as part of the AWS MAP program, Logicworks was able to secure significant funding to offset the costs of migration.
