Everly Health Solutions is a national clinician network that provides safe and easy access to diagnostic testing. Their software platform allows patients to sign up for at-home medical tests, facilitates delivery and pickup of medical tests, and allows patients to directly access their test results. With the significant impact of COVID-19, Everly Health Solutions experienced an exponential increase in business to facilitate COVID-19 testing. To meet this newfound demand, Everly Health Solutions needed to massively scale, while maintaining ongoing HITRUST compliance.
Challenges
- Former Managed Services provider was unable to provide necessary support for infrastructure scalability, in addition to monitoring and timely operational support
- Responsible for self-managed Kubernetes cluster hosted on EC2 instances leading to significant operational overhead as manual changes to the environment were frequent
- High variable load from five microservices in their environment posed an autoscaling burden on the manually deployed cluster

Solutions
- Logicworks recommended a rebuild of their existing environment to leverage more modern AWS services to meet Everly Health Solutions’ scaling requirements
- Designed and deployed an AWS EKS based solution, leveraging AWS Managed Nodes with custom AMIs, with Logicworks Cloud Reliability Platform tooling
- Each microservice was deployed as a separate task definition, allowing for more granular scaling policies, decreasing overall cost and improving reliability
- Migrated Redis cluster to AWS Elasticache and MySQL databases to AWS RDS
- Everly Health Solutions leveraged AWS Managed Services to offload management tasks to focus on application development
