Britain’s adoption of Amazon Web Services cloud platform is on the rise, according to a Logicworks survey conducted at the AWS London Summit last month.
Over half (54%) of survey respondents have already deployed applications in AWS, eighty-four percent (84%) of whom use AWS to host more than one application, the survey found. This has occurred despite Europe’s sluggish cloud adoption rates overall, as well as continued security concerns and reports that the vast majority of cloud providers are not ready for proposed EU regulations around data security.
After opening a new Region in Frankfurt last October, which includes at least two datacenters, AWS is clearly experiencing a period of growth in Europe. Amazon’s commitment to building datacenters in countries with strict privacy standards, like Germany, is crucial to building a market in Europe.
What is driving AWS adoption in the UK? The majority of survey respondents (52%) cited the need to maintain uptime, availability, and scalability as their IT organization’s top objective; twenty percent (20%) listed meeting compliance requirements. Early adopters in Europe do face challenges, however: fifty-four percent (54%) of respondents reported that they need more information, and twenty-six percent (26%) had concerns about security and compliance.
Most European enterprises interested in AWS realize that they cannot meet these objectives, gain more information, and meet security standards alone. Fifty-five percent (55%) chose to hire a managed service provider, which help organizations make sense of the appropriate AWS services, multi-region global deployments, as well as regulatory and compliance challenges.
