Meet Olivia Small, our Office Manager at Logicworks!

What is your favorite thing about Logicworks and why?
My favorite thing is that the leadership team is always open to new ideas. I have the ability to implement innovative ideas, groups, and anything else that I find important. For example, I’m passionate about diversity and inclusion and was able to start a Logicworks chapter.

What is your role at Logicworks and what are your responsibilities?
My role as Logicworks’ Office Manager has significantly changed since COVID-19 because the staff was asked to work remotely for the foreseeable future. When I worked from our HQ office, I was mainly responsible for managing the People Team budget, managing multiple office locations, and making sure each office had the supplies they needed. I’m also responsible for ensuring that our conference rooms are synchronized to Outlook and handle issues that arise during the day. I served as the greeter and managed on-site visitations as well as assisted HR with onboarding protocols.

What’s a typical day like? How has this changed during your time at Logicworks?
I love this role because everyday is different. When we were in the office, I would manage or participate in various projects. I fixed office equipment, improved air quality, fixed locks, managed deliveries, directed visitors, and resolved room conflicts. I also spent my time researching how to design an office to be more conducive for employee productivity. I selected comfortable furniture and fun snacks for the kitchen.

In March, we were asked to stay home due to the pandemic. My typical work day has significantly changed. I had to pause ongoing services to our offices and made sure that internal communications regarding working from home went out in a timely manner. Recently, I’ve been responsible for helping HR and IT with ad-hoc work and have enjoyed learning about different parts of the company. My favorite project during this time was assisting with the implementation of our first Diversity and Inclusion group (“DiveIN”) and hosting our first Solidarity Session.

What part about your role is the most exciting?
When I first started as the Office Manager, I knew that I would find instant gratification because I really enjoy working with people. In previous client-facing roles, I wouldn’t receive feedback as often as I do now. I take pride in receiving positive feedback from employees regarding something I implemented that helped brighten their day.

Did you ever think you would be in the technology industry growing up?
I first started working in a government official office, and I realized there is a lot to be done to address diversity in the workplace. When I first entered the technology field as a receptionist, I faced a lot of backlash. My goal was to change the ideas of the industry’s corporate culture, showing them that minorities can do anything and bring a lot to the table.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a lawyer and play basketball. The goal was to play basketball and become a lawyer once I retired.

Are you working on any cool projects right now?
Recently, we implemented our first Diversity and Inclusion group. This group is a passion of mine, and I’m really happy that we were able to host our first solidarity session. Other than that, I’m passionate about improving the employee experience. I’ve been working on organizing activities that can be done virtually and bring remote teams together.

What are you currently watching on Netflix/Hulu/Prime?
Netflix just added 90’s black sitcoms. I’ve been binging The Game and just finished watching Moesha.

Where is your favorite travel destination and why?

I love Las Vegas! I stayed at the Flamingo Hotel, which is home to the tallest ferris wheel in the world and has tons of outdoor restaurants. Las Vegas really feels like a whole different world and has so many different things to do, like pool parties and hiking. I also hiked around the Grand Canyon with no harness and experienced some of the world’s most breathtaking views.

What are you passionate about outside of work?
I am an artist. I love anything that utilizes my creative side. I can do hair, paint, sing, draw, and dance. During my senior year of high school, I received a scholarship to an arts college.

Advice for anyone looking to join this industry?
For anyone looking to join this industry, always be patient and be vocal. Make sure that your voice is heard.
