But all hardware fails eventually, all software products have bugs, and security threats remain pervasive. Navigating all these possible adversities requires the constant vigilance of the skilled operator, who must plan for and respond decisively to anything and everything that can possibly go wrong.
Logicworks’ Network Operations Center has been charged with keeping Internet applications up and running for over 15 years and has met all of these challenges -- and more – head-on. Logicworks’ clients typically generate revenues from their Internet applications, in some cases, very significant revenues, so their requirement for uptime is imperative. Logicworks has built its business not on promises, but results. While our competitors have either risen from the ashes of bankruptcy or spent tens of millions on marketing, Logicworks has always been focused on its core mission.
When Logicworks collaborates with its clients to help them design an architecture for their application, we walk through each aspect of the design to determine what happens in the event that any one component fails. In almost all cases, Logicworks implements solutions with devices in paired configurations, where not only a server itself can fail, but all the devices within its fault domain can fail. In other cases, where uptime is absolutely paramount, Logicworks can design and implement true multi-site high-availability, where an entire data center can go offline without interrupting the flow of traffic and transactions. Redundancy is not only Logicworks’ credo, it’s what allows us to have great relationships with our customers, and enables them to absorb the hiccups and bumps of typical Internet operations without breaking a sweat.
All other things being equal, the simplest solution is invariably the best. Logicworks has heard various third-party vendors over many years promise uptime and reliability through custom software. All too often those strategies create more problems than they solve, and addressing those problems invariably means getting sucked into indiscernible vendor finger-pointing. Wherever possible, Logicworks implements the solution prescribed by the primary vendor, whether that be Microsoft or Red Hat, MySQL, or Oracle; organizations with whom Logicworks has strong ties and access to internal engineering teams. Logicworks also relies on open source solutions that have been proven in large-scale production environments and have received broad community endorsement and support.
What allows Logicworks to do all of this is neither our state-of-the-art infrastructure nor the systems we’ve designed and developed: Logicworks’ primary assets are its engineers. With an average of six years network operations center experience, Logicworks’ engineers not only have the specific skills to accomplish rarefied tasks, but the hands-on, in-the-trenches experience that is essential when confronting a situation that no one has ever seen before. No amount of complexity or sophistication in automated systems can ever replace the role of the skilled operator: Human intelligence, informed by experience, remains the key differentiator in keeping critical systems up and running.
It is also Logicworks’ engineering leadership that keeps our services and offerings moving forward and evolving on a constant basis. Innovation is part and parcel of the IT industry, and Logicworks’ clients look to us to make new technology work reliably for their business. The value of Logicworks is not just what we can do now, but what we’ll be able do in the future. The momentum of innovation is deeply ingrained in our culture, and we are always looking for more reliable, more cost-effective, and more scalable ways of delivering everything we offer.
While Logicworks will continue to expand and deepen our managed services, we will only offer services that meet the common needs of multiple clients and not stray into development or consulting services. We believe that only through exclusive focus on our core mission – keeping critical Internet applications up and running all the time – can we provide clear value to our clients, better than any other provider, and better than clients doing it themselves, acting as a true partner to their business.
